Ferret Fun

When out and about with our Ferrets, we tend to create a bit of a stir. As you can imaging, some people have never seen a ferret before, and are a little puzzled by this ultra flexible bundle of fur, that is almost rippling as it moves along the ground on the end of a piece of string.

Some people even think it is a Joke, and the string is really wire, and it is just a piece of fluff on the end.

Here is a sample of some of the things people have either asked us, or we have over heard when out walking

The Most common "Ohhhh look, sweet, what are they?"
Sometimes followed by "uurrggghhh yuck, they smell and bite you know"

Or "What's that?"
My more usual reply is "A baby Great Dane, it shrunk in all that rain we have been having"

Another common cry “Granddad used to have them, they bite”
Usually coupled with "Don't touch, once they bite, they won’t let go until their teeth meet"

Others less apealing cries, include:-
"Do you put them down your trousers?”
“Nasty vicious smelly things”
"Is that a ferret or a polecat?"
“I had one of them once, had to shoot it, as it bit me and wouldn’t let go”
“Do you hunt with it?”
"eeaarrr Mister, ow much for your furit"
“I used to have ferrets”
“I have a coat made from them”
“Did you see Richard Whiteley with that ferret?”

Yawn... do they really think they are the first to say that to us.

Fortunately, not everyone is as rude or misinformed, and we do get some nice comments. Occasionally we get absolutely fantastic original things said as well

These include:-
“That's so cute, I thought it was a puppy / cat / kitten”
"Is that really a hamster / mouse / rat on a lead?"
“Aahhhhh… I want one”

and My personal favourite, said by a very well spoken young lady, to her mother, when she saw a young Albino standing on the edge of a hammock, “Ohhh look mummy, a baby polar bear”

Here are some other lighter ferret related bits. Why not take a look?
