Rolo’s Story

Rolo was at the RSPCA the same time as we picked Crunchie and Malteaser.

His previous owners had become bored with him and his two companions. They were all left in their cage and forgotten about. With no food, or water, they were starving and dehydrated. Both his cage mates had already died when he was finally rescued, and he was dangerously close to it himself.

The RSPCA had to keep him for a while, as they were prosecuting the owners. We saw him, and decided that he was so cute, and had had such a bad start, that it would be nice for him to come and live where he could enjoy his remaining life. We enquired about him, but had to wait a few weeks before it was decided he was well enough to be re-homed.

Once with us, he made up for being starved, and became very over weight. We looked at how to get him to a more healthy size, but we think that the bad start had affected him quite badly, and he seemed to be slightly backwards. He was a very gentle ferret, and enjoyed a cuddle, or anything that involved food or treats.

Over the course of his short life, he had to have surgery to remove a recurring lump from his face, and also had insulinoma. The insulinoma, caused him to have nasty fits, and in the end, one of these killed him. It is most likely the lack of nutrition during his early days that caused the onset of this.
